ERIK Knowledge based Innovation Network

The thematic network ERIK (European Regions Knowledge based Innovation Network) is formed by more than 50 regions with the aim to sustain and further develop networking and good practice exchange between European regions. The network focuses on one of main theme of the Regional Programme of Innovative Actions (RPIA): "Regional Economies Based on Knowledge and Technological Innovation". This programme was driven by the European Commission, Directorate-General for Regional Policy, until the 6th Framework Program.

ERIK Network’s objectives include benchmarking and disseminating good practices of innovation and knowledge-based policies as well as supporting interregional networking on innovation related topics. Between 2003 and 2007 ERIK has organised thematic workshops, study visits and conferences for the exchange on Regional Programs of Innovative Actions as well as building a database on good practices of innovation and knowledge-based policies.

The government of Lower Austria and IDEUM have jointly coordinated the Thematic Working Group (TWG) “Services and support to start-up and spin-off” in close collaboration with the regional governments of Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna as ERIK lead partners. Together with approx. 10 European partner regions IDEUM has structured the start-up process and developed a set of indicators, in order to get a better understanding for and to measure the impact of the support instruments on the success of regional start-ups as well as on the success of the supporting infrastructure.
